Since the creation of Adobe Flash in 1997, millions of Flash-based games have been designed and deployed all across the Internet. Each game brought an entertaining and highly addicting distraction to even the most casual of surfers. Whether it was the massive number of ever increasing games or the anxious audience waiting to get their latest fix, entrepreneurs quickly fashioned websites to store and display these "Flash games." Even now, these sites are still highly popular and are visited by thousands of people per day (many of whom are college students). Sadly, the games on these websites and the websites themselves fail to provide the players with friendly competition and social interaction - this is what we wish to change.
The solution to these problems is SHUGamer, a social networking website that transforms solitary gaming into competitive dueling. Our project will give users the ability to play their favorite Flash games and rank their highest score against fellow friends, people in their school, and even the rest of the world. Players will also have the ability to "friend" people they know, or even the player that gives them the most challenge. On top of all that, it will also provide students with a community to converse with by utilizing a thread-oriented discussion board. Now even though our name may imply that this will be restricted to Sacred Heart University students, our goal is actually to encourage people to join from all colleges. The name SHUGamer is simply to credit the website's origin.
We would like to give a personal thank you to Paul Neave for the generosity shown when we approached him as two students with an idea. He helped us with what we asked and because of it people are enjoying SHUGamer today.
